BACK TO SCHOOL INFO - DIVISION 3
Covid-19 Daily Self-Assessment
One of the most important ways to prevent Covid-19 transmission in our school is for students and families to ensure that students stay home when they have Covid-19 symptoms (until symptoms resolve or negative PCR test result).
Please perform a Daily Health Assessment prior to sending your child to school every day, whether or not your child is vaccinated. You can do this by following the guidelines described in this document, by using the online K t0 12 Health Check, or the K to 12 Health Check Mobile App.

School supplies
This year, school supplies were purchased by the PAC for all students. There is $25 fee to pay for the supplies, as outlined in the school's newsletter. Unless you have already done so, please send your payment as soon as possible (Cash , cheque payable to the ECH-PAC or online through https://sd79.schoolcashonline.com/) as soon as possible.
Water bottle and clean masks
Please note that the school's water fountains have been disabled to prevent Covid-19 transmission. It is very important that students bring a water bottle to school every day (it can be refilled at school).
Also, students in Grade 4 and up are currently required by the Province to wear a mask indoors and on the bus (unless they are exempted for a health or behavioural reason). Please send a clean mask every day, and a back-up if possible, as masks sometimes break or get dirty, wet, lost, etc. throughout the day.

Footwear and clothing for outdoor learning & physical activity
As we move into fall and rainy weather, it is very important that all students keep a pair of clean inside shoes at school. Please send inside shoes to school as soon as possible if you haven’t done so yet.
Daily physical activity, indoor and outdoor, is a mandatory aspect of the BC curriculum. Students are encouraged to wear clothing and footwear that is appropriate for running, climbing, rolling, and all forms of moving. Outdoor learning and outdoor physical activity will be a part of our daily routine all year. We will go outside every day, rain or shine. Students are responsible for arriving prepared for outdoor activities every day.

Peanut and Nut Free classroom, Healthy and Sustainable lunchbox
Please note that our classroom is peanut-free and tree nut-free due to allergies.
Students are encouraged to pack nutritious snacks/lunches and to eat a good breakfast before school. This will set them up for success at school! Throughout the first term, we will learn a lot about healthy eating in Health & Physical Education. We will learn how to choose nutrient-rich food, and we will share ideas and try recipes for healthy snacks and lunches.
As per the Ecole Cobble Hill Handbook: “We encourage students to bring litter free lunches." Reusable containers help to reduce waste, whenever possible. Students who have recyclable plastic containers in their lunch are encouraged to either bring them home for recycling, or to wash them at school and place them in the plastic recycling bins.

Schedule, attendance and puntuality
School starts at 8:30 everyday and ends at 14:15. Thank you for helping our class get off to a good start every day by arriving on time every day! If your child will be late, picked-up early, or absent, you can let me know by email.
Library
Our weekly library block will be on Mondays. In order to protect our library books, our school librarian asks that all books be carried in a bag that is reserved for library books. Please send a cloth or plastic bag to school labelled with your child's name to serve as a library bag.
Scholastic Reading Club: Code is RC128226
This year, I will run a Scholastic Reading Club. With the reading club, parents and students can shop online for great books in English and in French and have them delivered to their home! Purchases earn points for our class to use towards free books for our classroom library. It's a win-win! Here is how it works.
Use the class code RC128226 to help our class earn free books when you order with Scholastic.
You might have received paper flyers in the past for the scholastic reading club. There is now an e-flyer option, which is a great option for reducing waste. As a consequence, I will send you the e-flyer every month by email instead of ordering the paper flyers from Scholastic. Here are the September English and French flyers. There is a lot more choice on the website: you can search by grade, age, topic, author, title, etc. Happy reading!

Communication
Agenda: Your child’s planner/agenda is where we will write down homework assignments and important reminders. Students are expected to bring their planners to school everyday. I will stamp your child's agenda, indicating that your child has correctly filled-in the day's agenda. I might use the planner to communicate with you (if there was a mild behaviour problem, incident, late work, etc). Please check (and sign) your child’s agenda daily for homework, reminders, permission slips, notes, etc.
Website and monthly newsletter: I have created this website for our class to post general information, to keep you updated on what we are working on, and to facilitate communication. I try to publish a more detailed newsletter monthly with some pictures of student's work, but sometimes I run out of time and send you a few quick email updates instead!
Emails: I use emails to communicate reminders and information, and to notify when the classroom newsletter or website is updated with new material. I try to limit the amount of emails sent to parents and to link to the website as needed. Please let the office know during the year if there is any change to your email address.
I am always interested in learning more about your child or discussing any question or concern that you might have, at any point during the year. If I have any concern or question about your child, I will contact you to schedule a phone call or meeting. On occasion, I might also write you a note in your child’s agenda. Please don't hesitate to contact me for any reason whatsoever:
I am looking forward to meeting you!
Sincerely,
Nathalie Boulanger

- If you have to contact me for something urgent during a school day, the best way is to call the school's office, as I don't usually check my emails or phone during the day.
- For non-urgent matters, you can email me. I will get back to you as soon as possible.
- I am usually available before or after school for scheduled meetings, but please let me know in advance if you wish to stop by and chat with me so I can plan accordingly.
I am looking forward to meeting you!
