Code of conduct, expectations and Responsibility
"We expect all members of our school community (staff, students, parents) to treat others with respect, to promote a safe and positive school learning and working environment, to model courtesy, compassion and respect, to say no to bullying and ask for help when needed. We believe that everyone working and learning at Ècole Cobble Hill needs to follow the Code of Conduct as we interact with one another.
Students and staff are expected to act in a manner that enables everyone to participate effectively in the educational community." ECH Code of Conduct
Please take the time to review and discuss our school's Code of Conduct with your child.

Levels of Responsibility
As a class, we discussed what an ideal classroom (where we can be safe & happy, and learn to our maximum potential) looks, sounds and feels like. We are creating a list of class rules and expectations that will guide our actions this year in class and on the playground.
We assess our level our personal and social responsibility using the following scale:
A. Green level: Independant -Responsable B. Yellow level: Cooperative C. Red level: Ignoring - Non-cooperative D. Purple level: Disruptive or aggressive We are working on defining what these levels look like in different situations. Specific behaviour expectations are given before the start of each activity to help students know exactly how they are expected to participate. |
Students are responsible for regulating themselves, trying their best to stay at green level (or yellow). When a student is not participating in expected ways and is at the Red or Purple level, the following steps will be taken to help him or her get back to green level.
Step one: Warning
When a student is at the red or purple level, he or she will be given a warning and reminder of the class rules. The student will have a chance to self-regulate and get back to green or yellow level.
Step two: Time-out and Reflection (purple sheet)
If the child doesn't get back to a yellow or green level, he or she will be asked to take a break to reflect on the impact of the behaviour on the class. Students will think of why their behaviour was not acceptable (i.e. "interferes with the learning of others" or "hurt someone's feelings") and write down what they will do differently next time. An apology (to a classmate, or to the teacher) will show that the child is taking responsibility for his or her actions and is ready to join the class and participate in expected ways. The child's reflection will be sent home in the agenda for parents to sign (purple sheet) if it is not a major incident.
In case of repetitive disruptive behaviour, aggressive behaviour, or if your child is sent to the principal's office, I will contact you to discuss the situation personally as soon as possible. We will work together to understand the root of the behaviour and solve any underlying issues that might be contributing to the problem.
