Welcome to the Divison 5 Class Blog!
Dear Division 5 students and parents,
Welcome to a new year of learning and growing together! I have created this website to communicate information to families about our class.
Take the time to browse the Divison 5 Info section to read about back-to-school information and homework expectations for this year.
The Resource section has a few resources that I have compiled last year and I will continue to update it with useful resources throughout the year.
This blog will be used in lieu of newsletter. I will send a link to it in an email when it is updated. Feel free to comment and ask questions!

Meet the Teacher & School Picnic
Come meet me and visit our class this Wednesday, September 11, between 5:30-6:30 during the School Picnic. I am looking forward to meeting you!
All about your child
It is very important for me to get to know as much as possible about your child: interests, family, strengths and stretches. This will help me be the best possible teacher to your child. Please take your time to fill out the forms that I sent in your child's homework duo-tang and return them to me as soon as possible.
Goals for the first couple weeks of school
During the first couple weeks of school in class, our main goal will be to create a strong and positive community of learners. We will work on making everybody feel safe and welcome in the class. We will discuss what a good learning environment looks like, sounds like and feels like to help develop class rules that will ensure that everybody is able to learn. We will also study how our brain works and implement the Mind Up lessons to help create an optimistic classroom culture centered on focused attention, mindfulness, gratitude, empathy and connection to others.
In order to learn to our best potential, we will learn about the Growth Mindset and the Successful Learner Traits. The Successful Learner Traits framework connects to the BC Curriculum Core Competencies, using child friendly language and animals to emphasize the attitudes and traits that lead to successful learning. These traits include: Compassionate, Creative, Confident, Enthusiastic, Risk-Taking, Strategic, Industrious and Thoughtful. More information coming on all this soon!

Scholastic Reading Club - Club de Lecture
Our class is registered with Scholastic for the Reading Club. This is a way for parents to purchase interesting and popular books for our age group, in French and English. When parents make a purchase, the class gets money towards free books for our class library. Last year, I upgraded the class library with many popular French Graphic Novels as well as English Novel series that are now available for students during reading time.
Once a month, I will send some flyers home and you will be able to place orders if you desire (the best way to order is online, but you use the order form in the flyer). I will place the class order towards the end of the month. If you have never been part of the Scholastic Reading Club, you can learn more about how to create a parent account and place orders in the Resource section.
