We covered a lot ground this week! Here are a few things we have been working on:
Social Studies and Classroom Community
French & Digital Citizenship
We began by studying the song Mon Précieux by Soprano. Listen to the song with your child and ask them to explain to you some of the lyrics and why, they think, the author chose to call his phone "Mon Précieux" ! What poetic device does Soprano use in this song?
This week, students also used Prodigy in class. Prodigy is an educational math game that is aligned with the BC curriculum and also adapts to each child's level. When joining my class on Prodigy, students begin with a placement test that assesses their current knowledge of grade level concepts. As a teacher, it gives me detailed data on how each child is doing with specific areas of the math curriculum and helps me identify priorities for teaching.
Once the placement test is complete, I can program Prodigy to focus on certain concepts that we are studying in class. Students can play the game to get extra practice at home for homework study, or if they have to stay home when sick. They can also use it for math enrichment opportunities when they are done their work in class. If your child struggles with math, this is a fun way to get extra practice at home at any point throughout the year.
Health and Physical Education
We've also been using our song Le Coach to warm-up for physical activity! Great participation and enthusiasm everyone!!!
Terry Fox Run
In preparation for the run, we listened to Terry Fox: La perseverance by Gregg LeRock, and read some information about Terry Fox. We reflected on why Terry Fox is a "hero", what makes someone a hero. Students also wrote about their own personal "hero" or inspirational person. We discussed qualities such as courage and perseverance.
