Dear parents,
Most of the information in this post is covered in the video below. You will find below the outline for home learning this week. Please note that this is only the outline.
To access each assignment with detailed instructions, supporting documents and links, you will need to log in to the Division 5 virtual classroom on Office 365 Teams and navigate to the Assignments page. This is also where students will turn in their assignments for marking when required.
If you haven't accessed the Division 5 Virtual classroom yet, you can find information on how it works here, or watch the video Tour that I have prepared for you below. If you encounter any problem accessing it, please email me and I will be happy to help you.
Tip: If you haven't done so yet, I highly recommend that you install the Teams App on the computer or mobile device that you will use to access Teams, instead of going online to log in into Office 365 every time. I just leave the App open on my laptop and I never have to log in, which saves a lot of time.

Home learning Outline for April 14th-17th
This week, I challenge students to make sure they take care of their well-being by choosing a Wellness Challenge of their choice to carry-out throughout the week (parents are allowed to participate too!). In addition to this, I am suggesting two assignments that will introduce the units that will unfold in the upcoming weeks. There is also a little something from Cecily!
To guide you through this first week of home learning and to make sure everyone is on the same page in how to use Teams, please start by watching this video that will tell you all you need to know.
Watch this video for a tour of all the Teams functions and assignments for this week.

Support and communication with students during the week
The virtual classroom on Office 365 Teams is also how the students and I will be able to communicate throughout the week to discuss either as a group or privately.
The General channel has a post section where students can ask general questions about current assignments and where we can have whole-class discussions regarding our learning outcomes. I will answer questions directly on the channel, so other students may also read the answers. I have also created a special channel for our Wellness challenge this week. Students will go there to tell us which challenge they chose, update us on their progress, and encourage others.
Students (and parents) can also message me privately through the Chat function in Teams. I will send each student a personal check-in message on Tuesday and they can reply to this message at anytime during the week if they want more specific support on any aspect of their learning. Through the chat function, it is also possible to have phone conversations and video chats, which can be helpful to offer one on one or small group support. We can schedule these conversations ahead of time and I will call with the Teams app at the scheduled time.
In addition to communicating through Teams, we will have a weekly Zoom meeting as a class. Beginning on April 20th, our meetings will be on Mondays at 10:00. This week's meeting will be on Thursday April 16th at 13:30.

Availability
Please note that I am also a single parent home-schooling my Grade 2 and Grade 5 sons during these school closures. I will be available to schedule one-on-one support or to answer any questions on Teams every morning between 9:00-11:00 (9:00-10:00 on Thursday). I will plan some time to support my own children's schoolwork in early afternoon. Questions asked on Teams in the afternoon will be answered that day, but probably late afternoon - early evening.
Feedback
It was really difficult trying to decide on what type and amount of work would be feasible for families at this point. I tried to include some engaging, hands-on activities as well as some French since it has been so long. I hope that your child will be able to accomplish most of the work with minimal support. I appreciate your feedback to help me adjust the workload for next week.
