Dear parents,
Last friday, we started to learn how to type at the computer without looking at our fingers! We practiced again today and children are making good progress! We will practice our typing skills once or twice per week, for about 20 minutes each time. If your child wants to practice more at home, this is a good idea but it is not mandatory. Some students are very excited and want to practice more at home. If they do, they should use their school account so that it keeps track of where they are at in the lessons.
Typing the IP address to get to the login page is the hardest part for children to do!!! Please click on this link to get to the login page, and then bookmark the page for easier access: https://cobble-hill-nathalie.typingclub.com/
Students should already know their username (first name) and password.
For homework, I am asking students to read daily at home. Reading in French for 15 minutes is expected, but reading in English is also important and encouraged. Your child has a reading log in their homework duo-tang or binder (most children have a red duo-tang, but some use a binder) to keep track of the reading they do at home. Please initial their reading log to show that they have done their daily reading. You can also ask them to tell you about their book in their own words to check for understanding. If they have younger siblings, reading out loud to them would be a fantastic way to practice reading with fluidity and expression!
I have received a lot of permission forms for the online portfolios. If you haven't sent it in yet, please do so as soon as possible so I can have the portfolios ready for next week!
Starting today, I have started to make phone calls home to touch base on how things are going for your child. These should be quick check-in phone calls to discuss what I have noticed so far in terms of academics and behaviour, as well as suggestions on how to support your child at home. I will also try to answer any question that you may have.
Talk to you soon!
Sincerely,
Nathalie
